Quick Answers
Are carpenter ants a problem?
Yes. Carpenter ants do not eat wood, but they tunnel through damp or soft wood to nest. Piles of fine sawdust near trim or a window are a sign.
Why do ants keep coming back after I spray?
Store sprays kill the ants you see, not the colony. Bait that workers carry back to the nest works better for most kinds.
When are ants worst in Ohio?
From spring through late summer. Big swarms of winged ants in spring can be ants or termites, so a close look matters.
Does an ant control company need a license in Ohio?
Ohio requires a pesticide business license from the Ohio Department of Agriculture for any company that applies pesticides on someone else’s property for pay. Ask for the license number before work starts.
Who Lists Ants

What to Know Before You Call About Ants
Odorous house ants, pavement ants and carpenter ants are the usual ones in Ohio homes. The fix depends on which ant it is.
Wipe up the trail with soapy water and keep food sealed. Do not spray a trail you want a pro to bait, since bait needs live ants to carry it home.
For carpenter ants, ask the company to look for the moisture problem that drew them in.
