Quick Answers
How small a gap can a mouse fit through?
A gap about a quarter inch wide is enough for a house mouse. Rats need a bit more, about half an inch.
What does a rodent visit include?
Most companies look for entry points, set traps or bait stations, and seal gaps. Sealing is the part that keeps them from coming back, so ask if it is included.
Does a rodent company need a license in Maine?
Yes. Maine licenses or certifies anyone who applies pesticides on someone else’s property for pay, through its state pesticide regulator, most often the department of agriculture. Ask for the license number before work starts.

What to Know Before You Call About Mice and Rats
Droppings, chewed food bags, scratching in the walls at night and grease marks along baseboards are the common signs.
Traps and bait cut the numbers fast. Sealing gaps around pipes, vents, garage doors and the foundation is what keeps them out.
If you have pets or kids, ask where bait stations will go and what kind of bait is used.
